ABOUT

Robert Almblad

Entrepreneur, Inventor and automation expert

In his own words, Robert Almblad expressed a strong conviction in the transformative potential of his automation technology. According to him, this technology has the power to revolutionize the restaurant industry, from upscale dining establishments to quick-service restaurants (QSRs). Almblad specifically highlighted his Sous Vide Automation technology, which not only eliminates the need for manual labor but also ensures the highest quality of food through sous vide cooking. Notably, this technology accomplishes these benefits in less than a minute, making it a significant game changer in the field of robotics and culinary innovation.

1987 - 2006 | AUTOMATING KEYS

Robert Almblad, in his notable achievements, revolutionized the key duplication industry in the United States through his invention and implementation of automated key cutting machines. With approximately 25,000 installations at prominent locations such as Walmart, Home Depot, and others, his company Axxess played a pivotal role in transforming the industry. Subsequently, Axxess was merged into a larger corporation, contributing significantly to its eventual sale for approximately $1.5 billion. Notably, nearly half of the profits generated by the merged entity were directly attributable to Almblad’s patented inventions.

Expanding his automation endeavors, Almblad also introduced automation to the key-cutting industry in the United Kingdom. Given the increased complexity of the keys in the UK, the machines developed for this market were larger and installed at a smaller number of locations.

Robert Almblad invents Creditcard Keys in 1983

Robert Almblad also invented the Creditcard keys that were installed in every Ford, GM, Chrysler, and Mitsubishi until electronic keys were invented by another. A $250,000 loan was guaranteed by DuPont to build tooling, and he has maintained a continued relationship with DuPont, receiving their assistance with the Mylar film used for packaging their Sous Vide food
Why I automated the key cutting industry:
Key cutting technology needed to be improved to sell more “Creditcard Keys” because the Dupont Delrin slipped out of the jaws..
Also, the old technology was too difficult and besides that, Amoco agreed to give away 1 creditcard key for every 3rd tankful at 25,000 locations, but only if I could make/invent an “easy to use”. automated Key cutting machine.

TRANSITION FROM AUTOMATION OF THE KEY INDUSTRY TO THE RESTAURANT INDUSTRY

In 2006, Robert Almblad found himself transitioning from the automation of the key industry to the restaurant industry. At that time, Enodis, the leading restaurant equipment company in the United States, boasted impressive figures, with approximately $2 billion in sales and a strong presence as a public company.

With a keen interest in invention, Robert Almblad proposed a unique arrangement with Enodis. At his own expense, he offered to invent new solutions for the company’s Research and Development (R&D) facility located near Tampa, Florida. To his delight, the Chief Technology Officer (CTO) and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) agreed to his proposition, granting him the opportunity to participate as an independent inventor.

Determined to contribute wholeheartedly, Robert Almblad immersed himself in Enodis’ world. He made it a point to attend nearly every automation meeting and trade show, seeking inspiration and staying up to date with the latest advancements. Every day, from 8 AM to 6 PM, he diligently worked at Enodis’ headquarters, dedicating his time and efforts to the company for several years.

Almblad brings to Enodis outstanding experience in technology development. A successful entrepreneur and prolific technology developer, Almblad has extensive experience in the field of automation, with more than billion in products produced and sold utilizing his patents. Almblad previously has formed successful technical partnerships with many large companies including DuPont, Mitsubishi and 3M. The book *Corporate Partnering – A How-To Handbook® by Curt Sahakian at the Corporate Partnering Institute includes multiple reference to technology partnerships Almblad developed with many corporations.

Robert Almblad, along with his engineer son, invented the automated Smoothie machine in 2007. By 2015, the invention had generated over $100 million in sales and continues to thrive today, generating billions of dollars in sales at Quick Service Restaurants (QSRs) and Convenience stores.
